About Us
The Mazda MX-5 Club of NSW Inc
was
established to foster regular activities for its
members, all of whom have one thing in common – the
enjoyment of owning and driving the Mazda MX-5.
The MX-5 burst onto the scene in 1989 and is now
acknowledged in the Guinness Book of Records as the
largest series production sports car in motoring
history. The club was formed in June 1990 and
current membership is well over 500. This is a club
for everyone, our members are of all ages and from
all walks of life - we are like minded people who
love our MX-5 cars. The NSW Club has Chapters
in Sydney, Canberra and the Hunter and similar Clubs
exist in each of the Australian States, apart from
Tasmania, which is an adjunct of the Victorian Club.
Why join?
One of the main benefits of membership is the
sharing of knowledge between members. You can find
out a lot about your car just by attending the
Club’s technical nights and social events. We have a
lot of members who are familiar with all aspects of
the Mazda MX-5, classic or new, and they can help
you make the most of your car. You can recoup part
of the cost of your yearly membership by attending
the various social outings, such as the Xmas in July
lunch, which are subsidised by the Club.
Alternatively have your car serviced or purchase
parts and accessories from various Mazda dealers who
offer club member discounts. Club members
also enjoy discounts with other companies –
including those providing aftermarket products
and services. The Mazda MX-5 Club of NSW is
affiliated with the interstate MX-5 Clubs, the Miata
(MX-5) Club of America, and with the Confederation
of Australian Motor Sport which provides public
liability insurance for all of our driving events.
Above all else, membership is about sharing your
enthusiasm for the Mazda MX-5 with other aficionados
of the marque. Its well worth joining in – we’re
good company and when we get together, we have fun!
Club Activities and Events
Day Drives are organised by the Sydney
chapter on the third Sunday of each month as well as
quarterly Mid Week Drives for retirees and anyone
who can take a day off from work. The Canberra and
Hunter Chapters also have regular events. It’s great
to see a group of MX-5’s snaking in convoy
throughout NSW on winding MX-5 type country roads.
The runs end with lunch at the destination, some
convivial discussion, and then an independent return
home.
Coffee and Lies
get togethers occur
at various venues on the first Saturday morning of
the month, another great way to meet friends, talk
MX-5s and even go for an impromptu run together.
Weekends Away
are organised regularly, particularly on the long
weekends. A great way to consolidate friendships
over dinner!
Social Events
include the annual President’s Picnic, Xmas in July
and the Xmas Party – and don’t forget most costs are
subsidised.
Tech Talks
on various subjects are arranged at various venues,
with expert speakers to answer all your questions.
Sporting Programs
include motorkhanas, practice days, super sprints
and driver training. We cater for all levels from
beginner to advanced, and they’re a good way to
learn car control.
Concourse /Show & Shine
is an annual competition with cars in two categories
for the people who take pride in the appearance of
their car and, if you do not want to compete, you
can attend and park your car with others in the
Display only section.
Committee Meetings
are held monthly to discuss the club’s direction and
progress and to plan the Club’s forthcoming program
of events.
Annual General Meetings
provide all members with an input into the election
of the committee members and opportunity to
contribute and to participate in the administration
of the club’s affairs in an open forum.
Nat Meet
is a national meeting of all the MX-5 clubs in
Australia and is held every two years in a different
state. This is a huge event not to be missed!
Club Torque
is the feature packed quarterly newsletter updating
members on the Club activities during the previous
few months as well as providing other useful
information.
Club Events
is a monthly flyer advising of the upcoming events
and activities. It is posted on the Club’s website,
circulated by email and posted to members who do not
have access to the internet.
