Robert & Jan Gage's BOB
This is our weekend Toy, a 1990 NA6 Mazda
MX5, Crystal White.

This is my very first sports car, I bought
it at a second hand car yard on Church Street Parramatta on
Friday 16th November 2001. This was a true impulse, mid-life
crisis buy, had driven a few MX5's briefly but they had wheel
and suspension mods that made the car feel odd. This little
beauty was just as Mazda had built it and for the first time I
could feel the true balance and agility that everybody was
raving about. I made a ridiculous offer, it was accepted, money
changed hands and that was that. Total transaction time was 15
minutes and I had the keys. The very next week I joined the
Mazda MX5 Club of NSW and BOB and I have been smiling ever
since.
The car has performed well with little or
no mechanical problems. A battery, front shock absorbers, rear
vinyl window repair and that's it. Not bad for 150,000 K
The MX5 was the sort of car I wanted when
I was 18, but the finances and family influences caused me to
follow BMC / Leyland traditions which thank God are now well and
truly extinct. Here are my first cars which should have been
MG's or Mini Cooper's, the later efforts have been mainly Holden
and Ford company vehicles except for a short brush with my
wife's Volvo.
Modifications
so far are:
New Tail lights (the RHS lens of the
original was cracked)

The most recent mods are performance ones,
which is quite strange since I bought this car based on its
originality.

MX5 Mania Cold Air Intake - It sure does
not sound like it used to.

Stainless steel headers fitted by MX5
Mania. The above two modifications gave better throttle response
and I clipped 1.5 seconds immediately off my previous Wakefield
Track personal best. Future modifications are a set of sticky
tyres and some suspension work.
When not driving my MX5 I love to sail in
the summer months. If you are at Soldiers Point (Nelson Bay
Area) you will find me at the sailing club.
So, What's Next???? - How will I explain
the purchase of this??
